Popular music comes into being through the recording/manipulation of audio so it is important for students to think creatively about timbre/sound, as much as harmony/melody. This exercise encourages students to break habits, listen deeply, and consider music in a way that goes beyond the melodic/harmonic/rhythmic content that is often their priority.
